Thank You: A Simple – But Powerful – Message to Our Customers
By Lee Broughton
Symbolizing the interconnectedness of all life on our planet, trees often are planted in someone’s honor to demonstrate public appreciation and inspiration. With that in mind, Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s most recent commercial highlights the way we’re showing our thanks to customers – and to our country – by giving back through our 50 Million Tree Pledge.
We also have launched a dedicated tab on our Facebook page enabling fans to express their own personal thanks by dedicating a virtual tree for someone special. Our hope is that customers will pass their gratitude along to others.
You may recall that I’ve written about the Tree Pledge before – the commitment we made in celebration of our 50th Anniversary to plant 50 million trees over 50 years, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation and the U.S. Forest Service. Year after year, forest fires devastate trees throughout the country and the world. However, putting out fires is just the beginning. Next steps involve surveying, evaluating burned areas and determining what, if any, seed sources still exist. Once clean-up is complete, new trees are planted in a nursery and eventually transferred to the ground. The entire process can take up to three years or more, based on funding.
That’s why Enterprise has made such an enduring commitment to this important cause. As the new commercial points out, our reforestation effort is the equivalent of planting a new Central Park every 10 days for the next 50 years – and by year’s end, tree plantings will total 7 million throughout the U.S., Canada, U.K., and Germany. Only 43 million to go. As you can probably tell, investing for the long term is a priority for Enterprise – regardless of whether it’s trees, employees or customer service. In the end, we are always looking for a more sustainable way of doing business and supporting the communities we serve.
